There are tons of outlet shopping centers in California but our secret stop is the Camarillo Premium Outlets in Camarillo which is just past Thousand Oaks which is just past Calabasas which is just past the San Fernando Valley.

It's a bit of a hike from the Los Angeles-area--you should be able to get there within an hour but the traffic on the 101 freeway is horrendous, so it usually ends up being an hour and a half or two-hour trip.

But once you get there it is so worth the drive. Our reasons why after the jump.

MORE

There are two stores that make this outlet center very special to us --- the Ugg store and Attitudes. Please don't be scared. Yes, Uggs were the rage in 2004 but we like them. Granted, we would never wear them in public nor would we pair with a jean mini-skirt when its 85 degrees out but when we are sitting in our home and its cold outside (for LA, that's below 60 degrees), nothing makes our tootsies feel better than some Uggs.

At the Ugg store (which by the way is not listed on the official Ugg site, making it even more of a secret find), you can find some standard Ugg boots at discounted prices alongside some of the regular-priced Ugg products. Although, the offerings depend on the inventory.

Basically anything with embroidery or pockets is going to be full-priced. Unless it was a real bomb on the market. So why pay $100 plus at Nordstrom's when you can come here and get the basic Uggs for less.

Our second store is Attitudes, which conveys the image of a lesser-rate Forever 21. But this place sells designer brand jeans for less than wholesale prices. We can't figure out how they do this but the owner there once told our friend that designer jeans are so marked up that he can sell them at his store for nearly half-off and still make a profit.

Case in point, we bought Citizens of Humanity jeans which were retailing for about $165 for $88. When we called today to ask about their jean selection, they told us that they didn't carry 7 Jeans or Citizens but that they have Chip & Pepper, J Brand, Ed Hardy, James, 1921 and tons of Joe's Jeans. And they are having a sale on some jeans, meaning these prices have dropped to $45.

Other stores that we like having a look-see in are the Barneys Outlet, the new Adriano Goldschmeid outlet (again designer jeans for less), an Off 5th Avenue Saks outlet, Juicy Couture, and Banana Republic and Gap for the basics. Supposedly a Kate Spade outlet will be coming in the Fall.

How to Get There:
Take Highway 101 to Camarillo, exit Las Posas Road.

Secret place to stay/dine near outlets (none / 0)

Last time a bunch of us went to these outlets we shopped till we dropped then stayed overnight at the nearby Westlake Village Inn with a great restaurant and cool club.   We hung out in the pool/hot tub all morning and then life. WVI is off 101 at Lindero.
