Back of the Envelope Travel Guide To Medellín :: Map

If Vinny Chase and E spent time in Medellín Colombia it must be safe right? Um, not really. Drug addiction, crime, and a random machete street fight should make you question your travel choice. Then again, beautiful, consistent spring-like weather, streets lined with markets and merchants selling everything from herbal cures to children's clothes and nunchucks, beautiful people as far as the eye can see, and a nightlife scene make Medellín an up and coming choice for many travelers.

The best part? Since this area of Colombia does not see many tourists, most folks go out of their way to befriend the tourist species.

Here are three spots to hit if you decide to play Vinny Chase in Medellín.

Getting There:
You can get a direct flight to José María Córdova International Airport (MDE), in Rionegro from New York, Madrid, or Miami.

Museo de Antioquia
Displays a collection of contemporary art including work of Botero.
Open: Mon through Fri 9:30am-5:00pm and Sun and Hollidays 10am-4pm.
Entrance COP$8 000 and students COP$4 000.

Vinacure
Vinacure is part bar, part club, part museum, part clusterfuck. Vinacure is in an old house in Caldas, which is south of Medellin. The house is fully of small rooms, each with a different scene.

More from blogger pbh:

The house is on the right side of the road, it´s an area called "Tablaza". It´s a long ride from Medellin and since you´ll be there after 10 pm I suggest that you go there with a Colombian so you don´t get lost easily or take a taxi, now, if you take a taxi, say, from El Poblado, the ride would set you back about 20K pesos, so I suggest that you take the Metro to the last station (south), Itagüi station and then take a taxi from there, tell the driver to take you to Vinacure, in Caldas.

Metrocable up to Santo Domingo
Located in Santo Domingo Savio # 1, at street 106 between 31A and 32, in the sector known as Candlemas. This is the last station of the Metrocable system. Here, the cable cars turn and begin their decent to the Acevedo station at the main line. The top provides sweeping vistas of Medellin, plus young tour guides wait at the top, wearing t-shirts that said "guia" to make it easy on you.

Drinkers Tip:
Try Ron de Medellin, the local Rum.
