Where To See Drama Desk Winners

May 22, 2007 at 9:07 AM | by egw | 0 Comments

Want to know what Broadway shows are going to pick up Tony Awards next month? Check out the the Drama Desk Awards, which are to the Tonys like the Golden Globes are to the Oscars. The Drama Desks were held on Sunday night, so you'll have to act now if you want to get tickets to see your favorite stars onstage:

The big winner of the night, Tom Stoppard's trilogy "The Coast of Utopia," has already closed so you won't be able to catch Billy Crudup or Ethan Hawke (among many others) there, but there's still time to see Vanessa Redgrave as Joan Didion in "The Year of Magical Thinking" (open run at the Booth Theatre, 222 West 45th Street), or her fellow Drama Desker Frank Langella in the political drama "Frost/Nixon" (242 West 45th Street). Four-time Tony winner Audra McDonald picked up Outstanding Lead Actress in a Musical for "110 In The Shade" (through July 29 at Studio 54, 254 West 54th Street). But our recommendation is four-time Drama Desk awardee "Spring Awakening," a teen angst rock musical co-written by '90s pop star Duncan Sheik. Now those are some kids who deserve a ticker-tape parade along the Great White Way.
