Los Angeles: "Vanity Fair" Party Room To Become Private Treehouse To Stars

May 14, 2007 at 9:00 AM | 0 Comments

Los Angeles just can't get rid of its oases of democracy fast enough. (Perhaps they're sending them to Iraq?) The latest institution to buckle under is Morton's, the steak house and former location of Vanity Fair's Oscar party, which will become a private club at the end of 2007.

Sure, deal-makers filled up most of the tables at Morton's, but it was always possible (or so we're told) to at least get a poorly placed table from which to spot regulars like Jack Nicholson, Barbra Streisand and Michael Eisner. In its new incarnation, the site will be the West Coast clubhouse of the London-based private club Soho House, and owner Nick Jones is funneling $5 million into the City of Angels in order to redo the place in his image, according to the LA Times. They already have the New York hotel (frequented by Madonna and Nick Lachey, among others); now Jones also wants to expand to Madrid and Berlin. But no worries, he's keeping LA's Oscar party, according to LA Biz Observed. We'll be on the couch... again.
