An All Year Christmas

We've been thinking about the list of 315 "countries" the Travelers' Century Club lists as belonging to the world--the 315 that obsessive traveler Lee Abbamonte needs to visit the next decade to claim the title for the youngest person to go everywhere. Australian territory Christmas Island appears on the list and sounds worth investigating.

In fact, Christmas Island is the tip of an undersea volcano, so it should be a pretty happening place. It's much closer to Indonesia than to Australia and the best way to get there is by plane from Singapore. The unique ecosystem is the big tourist draw, with great diving, birding and sailing to be had. And the catchy slogan? "Christmas 365 days of the year." Not sure what Santa's folks would think of that, but it works for us.
