Most Missed: Austin

Hey! South By Southwest starts today! If you're lucky, you've already picked up your conference badge and you've been depriving yourself of sleep for a month so as to better stay up all night rockin', fueled by Red Bull and vodkas. But the concerts proper don't start till next Wednesday, so you still have time to find someone to hold hands with during the St. Patrick's Day Jandek concert (Central Presbyterian Church, 200 E. 8th Street). If you can stand to miss a few rounds of cheap ribs, the best place to meet a new concert buddy is at one of Austin's 30+ H-E-B locations; the grocery store chain, whose initials stand for Here Everything's Better, is a place where the dreadlocked, the sushi eating, men in suits and Thundercats fans come together. But if it's all barbecue, all the time, maybe one of these spots will be music to your ears:
Jo's
242 West Second Street/ 1300 South Congress Avenue -- Wash down their jalapeno cornbread with a latte or a Ghiradelli chocolate mocha. The South Congress shop will be hosting free concerts in the adjacent parking lot during SXSW.
Quack's
411 E 43rd St -- Proper name: Captain Quackenbush's Cafe. Business: Delicious baked goods and the occasional coffeeshop guitarist.
Plucker's Wing Factory
2222 Rio Grande Blvd. -- According to my informal survey of Craigslist, this restaurant, take-out and delivery stop (an Austin native itself) has the cutest waitresses in the metro area. It's also the same chain where Hurley from "LOST" worked before he won his millions. Okay, we made that up, but we bet Hurley loves him some wings.
