Movie Set Travel: The Namesake

Where: Kolkata, India

If you read the book, this week you'll go see the movie. The Namesake, based on Pulitzer-winning Jhumpa Lahiri's novel, is finally in theatres, and we're pretty excited about this one.

It's the story of Gogol, the son of Indian immigrants, who's attempting to fit in in New York even though his family members are having a tough time letting go of their traditional ways.

This one was shot all over New York, as well as in various parts of India, including the zany and exciting Calcutta. In that vein, we offer you a couple of fun things to do in Kolkata/Calcutta:

Where To Stay:
Taj Bengal
Check into the swank Taj Bengal, a member of the ultra-luxe Taj group, and you'll walk into an 11,000-square foot Atrium lobby. Head up to your room, awash in Indian fabrics and themes. Forgot your computer or cell phone? No worries, for a fee, you can borrow one during your stay.

What To See:
Marble Palace
After obtaining a pass a day in advance from the West Bengal Tourism Office, you can head to the Marble Palace, one of the city's most interesting buildings. Made entirely of imported Italian marble, peacocks wander the inner courtyard and the large lawn is covered in scultures of lions, Buddhas, and even the Virgin Mary.
