United for Filth

An unlucky Consumerist reader recently found himself bearing the brunt of United Airlines' sloppiness, but fortunately lived to relay the tale. Chris was headed from Hawaii to Chicago when he learned that there was "no time" to properly clean the plane he was on, and was left to document the filth himself. Among the most disturbing finds? "Some sort of bag with something in it," the mysteriously dubbed "ball of goo," and a feminine hygiene wrapper. He also ran into problems at O'Hare when he missed his connecting flight. In this case, United came up with an acceptable response, and Chris and his wife received a total of $600 worth of travel credit for future United flights, a result he says he's happy with. But the mental burn will take longer to heal than the wallet burn. The condition of the plane was, quite simply, gross.
