Gold Souk
Dubai loves gold. Local Indians and Iranians take their wares to Gold Souk where hundreds of shops compete for your attention and dollars. You can find virtually any type of gold object you are looking for, and more often than not bargaining pays off. Even if you don't want to buy golden objects, Gold Souk is a great place to people watch.
Nad Al-Sheba
Hosts the world's richest horse race, and has plenty of camel racing, if you need your fix. However, don't count on making any bank here. Since Islamic law prohibits gambling, racegoers tend to spend their time trying to win prizes, like trying to win a pearl necklace that goes to the Best Dressed Woman or picking the winners of all eight races to be entered into a drawing for a car. Pick the winners of eight straight camel races and get a chance to win a car? What a crock.
Wild Wadi Water Park
For right around 100 Dhs the entire Houston family can have water park fun--what could be more American than that.
This water park is located next to Burj Al Arab and the Jumeirah Beach hotel. It has some rides, a wave pool and artificial surf waves.
Jumeirah Beach Park
Our understanding is:
It is not permitted for individuals to kiss publicly, and you will not find any nude beaches or communities in the United Arab Emirates.
According to Gay Outdoors, the local romance rules go even further:
The local culture is OK with men holding hands in public, and it's considered normal for men to have sex with other men before and during marriage. They don't believe there is anything gay about their actions but don't get caught since sexual activity between men is referred to by lawmakers as an "unnatural offense" and is punished up to fourteen years imprisonment. Remember when the U.S. had such laws not that long ago?
Also remember, Jumeirah Beach has "Women Only" days, so check before you go.
The Overnight Safari
Drive through the sand duens, grab a dune dinner, and hunker down in a spacious tent for an Arabian Night. Overnight desert safaris are possible daily and require a minimum of 2 guest at the cost of Dhs. 400 (US$ 110) for adults and Dhs. 300 (US$ 82) for children. You can also book New Year's Eve Desert Parties, and Wadi Bashing days.
