Qantas Snack Pack Attack

February 28, 2007 at 1:15 PM | by juliana | 1 Comment

We recently flew the LAX to Sydney route on Qantas for the first time. Actually, it was the first time we had ever flown non-stop for longer than nine hours. And after hearing that Qantas was having some trouble with its in-flight entertainment system, we were worried about how we would pass the time.

But luckily for us, the movie system worked and we proceeded to watch The Illusionist, The Black Dahlia, Flags of Our Fathers and everyone's favorite Aussie movie, Muriel's Wedding. Ok, maybe that's just our favorite movie. (On the return from Sydney we watched Volver, The Queen, Babel, and Love, Actually, thus allowing us to be sufficiently prepared for the Oscars.)

More after the jump...

We wish that there was more to report on this flight, after all it was 14 and a half hours but things went pretty smoothly. Qantas spends the first couple hours of the flight feeding you (alcohol is included) then they drop off a cute little snack pack with a bottle of water, some chips, chocolate cookies and mints.

Flight attendants come around again during the last three hours of the flight and serve you some more food, including hot chocolate with a fluffy marshmallow. You also get a little vanity kit which has grey wool socks, an eye mask and a mini-toothbrush and toothpaste kit.

If this was a U.S. Domestic flight you would think you were in first class, minus the spacious leather seats of course. But guess what? These economy tickets to Oz were similar to US first class, about $1,500 each way. Business class on this Qantas route starts at $13,000 and First can go as high as $30,000.

Now, we totally understand why Ralph Fiennes went to the mile high club with that tarty stewardess, he practically bought the bathroom--which is very spacious by the way. Multiple sexual positions could be formed here, not that we did but in case you were curious.

    Muriel's Wedding ...

is definitely a great Australian movie. But you should've been watching The Castle (I think that's a permanent feature on Qantas inflight ...). Gotta love the snack bags, though. I always try to guilt nearby passengers into giving their leftover chocolates to me.
