Listicle Travel: Planning Your Trips for 2008

Starting to make your travel plans for next year? Grab a pad and pen and dig into Denny Lee's recommended 53 places to visit next year in this week's New York Times travel section. (Is there something significant about the number 53 that we're missing?) Highlights include:

Death Valley: Recent heavy rains have flower folks predicting that the valley will have a dazzling, over-the-top spring bloom next year. With over 1,000 species of wildflowers found there, this could make for some awesome photos (like the one above).

Easter Island: This tres remote spot is getting its first luxury resort this month, and it's sure to become a huge draw. Explora en Rapa Nui will be a quaint 30-room spot, made of natural materials and featuring amazing views of the Pacific from all angles.

San Diego: Don't miss the much anticipated, newly opened Hard Rock Hotel, which literally has it all under one roof, including Nobu, Pinkberry, a spa and two hip Rande Gerber nightspots. Wildfires? What wildfires?

Easter Island T-shirt

It's easy for the New York Times to say you should go to Easter Island, but the fare's mighty high.  If you can't afford to go there, at least you can buy this cool T-shirt to make people think you did:
