Movie Set Travel: Atonement
With false accusations, steamy English romance and a mansion in the countryside, this week's pick is sure to satisfy the accent lovers.
Atonement, based on the best-selling novel by Ian McEwan, follows the lives of Briony, Robbie and Cecilia over a 35-year period and through WWII. Keira Knightley plays Cecilia and is about the biggest name in this one, but we're sure she represents her roots well.
As this one was actually shot where it takes place, in and around the London countryside, we offer you some great things to check out there this holiday season:
Where To Stay: Dukes Hotel, London Slip into this discreet enclave off a quiet cul-de-sac and into a world of British distinction. Walls are lined with oil paintings of former dukes and the lobby's made to resemble a drawing room. We hear their martinis are just right for the setting too.
Where To Eat: Jumble Room Cafe, Grasmere Take a break from standard English country food, and stop by this charming stone-built restaurant crammed with bright knickknacks. Feast on game pie, roast chicken and cullen skink (haddock chowder with fresh veggies).
What to See: Black Park Country Park, Buckinghamshire Stroll the grounds of this 530-acre park with miles of stony paths through the woods, or book a mini scooter for free and bring your picnic into one of the picturesque clearings for a break.
