Late to the Party: The New York Times' New Travel Blog

December 6, 2007 at 11:00 AM | by | Comment (1)

The New York Times quietly launched a new blog yesterday called Jet Lagged with an inaugural post by travel writer Pico Iyer. He's arguing that air travel today is actually better than ever, while acknowledging that delays and security hassles don't always make it fun:

So long as you sidestep the scam of business class, a flight from San Francisco, say, to Paris can set you back no more than it would have in 1982. You can get games, songs and more and more movies in the comfort of your seat. The food on international flights is improving--slowly--and electronic check-ins, online purchasing and frequent-flier programs have made the whole business of air travel much quicker and more painless than it used to be.

Heh. Sounds like he hasn't been stuck on the taxiway for eight hours lately, trapped inside an aluminum tube with the toilets backed up.

The team-edited blog lists a number of prominent writers on the masthead, including aviation consultant Michael Boyd, "Ask the Pilot" pilot Patrick Smith and of course the aforementioned Pico Iyer. We don't know what else to expect from the new blog, but if someone out there knows, fill us in.
