Back of the Envelope Travel Guide: Sundance Film Festival

December 18, 2007 at 4:30 PM | by pbb | 0 Comments

The granddaddy of indie film festivals starts in less than a month, when the Sundance Film Festival opens in Park City on January 17. On the roster are premieres of Morgan Spurlock's Where in the World Is Osama bin Laden and playwright Martin McDonagh's In Bruges. Dramatic, documentary and animated shorts are also on the schedule, as is kicking it around town with a bunch of celebs.

If you haven't already started scouring the Interwebs for accommodations, we'd suggest starting about five minutes ago. HotelChatter is following the scene with a close eye. Meanwhile, get your skis or board waxed up because we'd hate for you to go to Park City and skip the snow.

Our Back of the Envelope Guide

Where to Watch: Eight different venues in Park City will host screenings, so you'll want a festival guide to sort out which theater has the films you want to see. (You can grab the guide here.) The Park City Marriott is Festival HQ, in case you need directions or want to pester the frazzled organizers. Sundance House at The Kimball Art Center is the place to take a break between screenings.

Where to Hobnob: The Opening Night Party livens up the Legacy Lodge on Lowell Avenue from 9 pm-1 am on January 17. The outdoor concert Music on Main takes over, you guessed it, Main Street on January 24. If you can't find a happening bar in Park City during Sundance, try leaving your hotel room.

Where to Ride: Three resorts surround Sundance: The Canyons, Deer Valley and Park City Mountain Resort. The Canyons has a new high-speed quad lift and recently renovated mid-mountain lodge; Deer Valley's opened some new terrain this season. Park City Mountain is known for having some of the best terrain parks in the world.
