Holidays in New York: Don't Stop Shopping at Macy's

Where: Herald Square [map], New York, ny, United States

Just because you've been checking out art galleries, restaurants and festive theater all day and all night doesn't mean you can't squeeze some shopping into your New York trip. The flagship Macy's on 34th Street--also home to the miracle--will be open 24 hours from December 21 to Christmas Eve.

While most people think this is a great idea, we're gonna have to agree with New York magazine that a mid-level department store at 3 am might not be the best place. Still, if you've procrastinated on your gift-getting, Macy's could be your Christmas savior. (Aside from that other Xmas savior, of course.)

If you'd rather do your shopping in the daytime, Manhattan's holiday markets are a good place to load up on mittens, scarves and trinkets, while Brooklyn has some cool, one-of-a-kind boutiques well worth a short subway ride.

macys will party all night long

ok i am not saying that i am the kind of person who tosses and turns at night wondering if i've gotten gifts for everyone that i need to but...oh screw it. i totally am!

at first glance, this idea is brilliant. 24 hours shopping in a department store. its like i could finally realize my dream of acting out the movie mannequinn. except instead of kim cattrall it will be some hot guy like john mayer or milo ventigmilia that i get to shack up in a sleeping tent with.

but like most businesses that are 24 hours, i feel really bad for someone who has to work the  2-8am shift. so that makes me sad. once again materialism beats out everything and anyone else on christmas.

i think if macys was open to midnight that would probably suffice. besides in reality my bedtime is like 10pm.
