Skybus: Maybe We're Too Hard on the New Guy

Last week, we filled you in on Skybus' college football service between Columbus and Biloxi, a route that's perfect for Buckeyes fans headed to New Orleans to catch the BCS National Championship Game. We like to heckle the ultra-low cost carrier because it provides such limited services to its passengers--and is a little misleading when it comes to describing its airports. (Skybus' "Boston" in Portsmouth, NH is 62 miles from the actual Boston.)
But reader bdennis reminds us that Skybus--while not the best airline ever--is great for fliers, especially those in Columbus, who don't mind saving lots of money:
I live in CMH and have flown Skybus three times--all very positive experiences. I flew to Portsmouth and San Diego with my wife and child for $120 total for the three of us each trip.
And people aren't stupid--Portsmouth is a great airport, and we went to New Hampshire and Maine for our vacation this summer and had no problems. Others on our flight back took the bus in to Boston and had a great experience. San Diego is a loss.
I also flew to Richmond for business and paid $180 roundtrip...[The] business model works for me and I agree with most of their decisions. It's not for everyone but I'm happy [Skybus is] here in CMH.
As the airline expands--with flights to Greensboro, Milwaukee and Punta Gorda--we're interested to see how many more fliers Skybus can win over. Who knows, maybe we'll even change our tune--after all 10 bucks for a plane ticket ain't bad.
