How Much is a Trip to Skybus New York?

Skybus, the airline that just can't resist drawing larger and larger concentric circles around urban areas, is now claiming service to New York City, via Stewart International in Newburgh, some 79 miles north of Manhattan.

Instead of fighting the 'bus we figure we will play their game. Say you are from Greensboro North Carolina (work with us here) and you are planning to take a trip to NYC on Skybus next spring -- yes with the greyhound of the sky you need to plan well in advance -- what will you pay?

April 18 - April 20 Example Trip Itinerary

Let's say, just say, you get a couple of $10 tickets -- meaning round trip for two would be $56.80 after taxes and fees. Ok, now ready for your flight times? You leave Greensboro at 5:45 AM and arrive in Newburgh at 7:23 AM. Next, hop on a $1 Leprechaun bus that will take you to Metro-North. Your round trip fare to Grand Central is going to be $28.98. Now you are free to take a train or a cab to your hotel. Your flight home to Greensboro leaves Sunday night at 10:26 PM. Commute time from Stewart International to Manhattan -- plan on at least 2 hours (you could take a cab to Manhattan for $189.20)

$116.76

On JetBlue, from Raleigh Durham (a 68 mile little over an hour drive from Greensboro) you can pay 318.80 all in to fly from RDU to JFK, then go for a $50 cab ride to Manhattan.

Obviously, Skybus wins hands down, and we think there are plenty of college kids and bargain hunters that will put up with this planes trains and automobiles nonsense. Basically, tourists that would have considered taking a bus from North Carolina to NYC now have a better option. That said, these folks better pray to god the Pod Hotel has availability for their Manhattan weekend of choice, otherwise they are looking at over $300 a night for a decent hotel room.
