Rampant Speculation: What's Skybus Up To?

November 20, 2007 at 9:00 AM | by pbb | 3 Comments

We can't let Virgin America have all the fun. A tipster pointed us toward a strange Skybus flight between Amarillo and Mobile Downtown Airport on November 17. The 1 hour, 47 minute flight coasted along at 27,000 feet after departing at 7:53 am.

Who was on it? Was it a Skybus charter flight? Or does the airline have secret expansion plans?

Let's take a look at what we do know: Skybus already serves Gulfport-Biloxi International, just 72 miles away. But the closest the airline gets to Rick Husband Amarillo International is Kansas City. Low-fare rival Southwest has some gates at AMA, and the airport is in the midst of an expansion that will create seven new gates.

Interestingly, this was Flight 4600; Port Columbus International Airport, Skybus' home base, is located at 4600 International Gateway in C-Bus.

We'd call the airline's spokesman, but he usually doesn't tell us anything about route expansions--though we'd be happy to hear any gossip.

    calm your speculation

AMA is where the aircraft get painted.  SX is just in the process of accepting new aircraft, that's all.

    Getting painted?

That's nowhere near exciting enough. I thought I was going to hear some interesting gossip. Who needs the truth??

    Oh, I totally Agree...

I was looking forward to something sinister... Paint jobs don't rank high on the super-evil-geniuses scale.
