We Love Us Some Aussie Cake

Where: Australia

Our story earlier this week on seeing glow worms on the Gold Coast in Australia brought a curious query from Jaunted reader Graham. It wasn't about the glow worms but the promise of getting some Aussie cake for dinner.

Quite rightly, Graham asked us what Aussie cake is--after 60 years in Australia, he said he'd never heard of it. Fair call. Our translated-for-the-international-market "Aussie cake" is actually the iconic lamington. A lamington is basically a cube of plain sponge cake dipped in a thin chocolate coating and rolled in coconut, and they're often served split in half with cream.

If you've never had the pleasure of tasting a lamington, we promise you that they're delicious. What's more, they're apparently even supplied to "new Australians" after every citizenship ceremony. And to tourists who head to the caves on the Gold Coast in search of glow worms.
