Virgin America: Lingerie Models? Yes. Seattle Service? Not So Much.

November 13, 2007 at 9:50 AM | by pbb | 4 Comments

Virgin America's inaugural Victoria's Secret flight touched down at LAX yesterday, dropping off 27 runway models on their way to the lingerie company's annual fashion show. Some of the women will be back on board on November 28 for VA's in-flight PJ party.

And while we like models as much as anyone, we also like digging up dirt on where Virgin might fly next. After our speculative post last week, we figured Seattle was a lock for future service. Until we contacted airport spokesman Perry Cooper, that is:

We do not have any plan at this time for Virgin America to come to Seattle. We have been in talks for a couple of years with Virgin, as we are always looking for appropriate additions for our Northwest travelers. But we have not determined any plan or agreement.

Now, this certainly doesn't mean VA won't ever touch down at Sea-Tac, but it does make us more apt to believe Miami is the next destination for the airline.

    Just talk

They have already started hiring for Seattle and Miami. Seattle is next. I really wouldn't rely on what they said. They don't have to tell the truth about expansion.

Boston will be in late 2008. The market is too crowded to bother with right now, with so many airlines on the Bosotn-California routes.

    There's Lots of Talk...

I considered that the airport could just be saying this, but I'd like to give the folks there the benefit of the doubt. We'll soon see if they were telling the truth or not.

While I've heard that VA is hiring in Seattle, I haven't seen any classifieds or other actual proof beyond the fact that the airline is hiring in a "Western United States" city. Anyone have anything beyond that?

    Hiring

There are two station manager job listings that VA has right now. The "Western United States" station manager will be based in Seattle; the "Eastern United States" station manager in Miami. They aren't ready to disclose the locations yet publicly, but that's what they are.
