Television Travel: "Gossip Girl" Glamour, On And Off The Set

We predicted that the new CW show "Gossip Girl" would show "a shot or two of Central Park," because of the price and inconvenience of shooting in New York City. One only need look to "How I Met Your Mother" and "Ugly Betty" for examples of classic New-York-in-L.A. fakery. (Though we do love those shows!)

But "Gossip Girl" creator Josh "The O.C." Schwartz has done the Central Park shots and so many more, much to our--and your--satisfaction.

So far the characters--including bitchy Blair, troubled Serena, charming Dan and nefariously hot Chuck--have been spotted in three boroughs and many different neighborhoods, from the Meatpacking District to Long Island City. For snobbish Upper East Siders, they sure do get out a lot! (That's just one of the ways the show differs from real New York City.) At this rate, this show might beat "Sex and the City" and show Staten Island in its first season.

Our Gossip Girl Map tracks the characters all over New York, but the young cast that plays them has also been spotted out and about in the city. Chace Crawford (Blair's stoner boyfriend Nate) is conducting his real-life romance with American Idol winner Carrie Underwood the way his character might, from Italian restaurants on the Upper East Side to canoodling on the dance floor at Marquee.

Blake Lively (Serena) made an appearance at the launch of next year's Tiffany & Co. catalog at the flagship store on Fifth Avenue, and Leighton Meester (Blair) took in a performance of "Rent" on one of her off days. About the only cast member who hasn't been spotted around town is Taylor Momsen (conniving Jenny). Of course, at 14 she's the youngest member of the cast, so there's plenty of time before we start tracking her moves all over town.
