Surfing in Hawaii :: Lessons With A View

October 9, 2007 at 10:00 AM | by ced138 | 0 Comments

Surf Hawaii Surf School, located on the north shore of the island of Oahu, calls itself the most amateur-friendly surf school on the third-largest island in the archipelago.

The school has classes for beginning, intermediate and advanced surfers, including children and adults. Instructors are CPR-certified, open-ocean lifeguards. Plus, you'll feel like you're on an episode of Baywatch Hawaii when Edison de Paula, the lead instructor/owner pictured above, gently guides you along the water's surface. Private lessons with Edison start at $130 for three hours. A small price to pay, we say.

In addition, anyone who books a surfing lesson gets an optional sea turtle sightseeing tour for free. Edison also offers a day-long excursion dubbed the "around the island surfing tour." In addition to a surfing lesson, the package includes transportation, a visit to the Polynesian Cultural Center followed by a stop at either the Aloha Stadium Flea Market or to the Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor. The price is $195 for a minimum of two people. We were hoping for some more alone time with the younger, better-looking, chest hair-free version of David Hasselhoff, but we guess our friends can come along.

Find it on our Hawaii Surf Schools Map.
