Brazilians who move to Ireland, foreign cartoons and a behind the scenes breakdown of opera. Where else could such randomness roost but the wild and crazy capital of the film world, Columbus, Ohio? That's right--at least for eight days of the Columbus International Film and Video Festival. The Columbus College of Art and Design hosts the showcase every year, and with admission charges ranging between five bucks and free, you'll have a little scratch left over to treat yourself to some local indulgences.

Where to Stay:
Why not stay in "a hotel like no other in the world," you know, like every other boutique hotel? Columbus' The Lofts caters to those who like their accommodations with more style than another abstract watercolor hanging over the bed. Housed in a historic former warehouse, rooms feature floor to ceiling windows, wide open floor space and fine Italian linens. And with the money you're saving on the movies, how can you say no to a rose petal turndown?
Where to Eat:
Not too far from the main screening venue is the former church turned uber-hip restaurant and nightspot Bar of Modern Art. If the name alone doesn't get you curious, the menu should impress lovers of seafood and fusion fans who like it organic. Cocktails come from one of the seven bars in the place so there's little worry of running out of things to sip. Plus, BoMA boasts a four room dance club on premises so there's ample opportunity to work off whatever you order.
Where to Unwind:
If the club is not your scene, Elevator Brewpub might be more your speed. Twelve beers are on tap and brewed on premises with one changing monthly. Rest your elbows on the bar, shoot some darts or play some pool on the two restored antique billiards tables.
