Live Music Travel: Yeehaw!

October 11, 2007 at 11:15 AM | by | Comments (0)

It's the trifecta of rural pleasures: country music, barbecue and racing. All three collide in a two-day festival this weekend at Texas World Speedway in Bryan-College Station, Texas.

The grandpappy of country music (and perhaps its only surviving democrat), Willie Nelson, will preside over the more than 50 musical acts performing at the Big State Festival. Other headliners include old standbys Lynyrd Skynyrd, Lyle Lovett and pop-country acts like Tim McGraw, Dierks Bentley, Miranda Lambert and Trace Adkins.

Between shows, watch stock car drivers burn rubber along the two-mile oval in the race for the Big State Cup. Then refuel on BBQ over at the cook-off tent: The "Royalty of Ribs" competition will award almost $80,000 to the maker of the best rack.
