Only If There's Sauerkraut

January 26, 2007 at 10:35 AM | by amandak | 0 Comments

We know that burger chain with the golden arches is basically everywhere, right? Well, there's one town in Germany that's just decided it's not part of everywhere. The villagers of Geschendorf in northwestern Germany have banded together to say no to a plan for McDonald's to open on the outskirts of the village. Why? Because there's no McSauerkraut, basically.

A village of only 500-odd people doesn't sound like the greatest market, anyway, but the mayor was particularly adamant that fast food should say away:

We are quite happy with the local restaurant where we can get sausages and schnitzel, and all nine local councillors supported the decision.

When you've got your sausages and your schnitzel, what else could you need? So if you're traveling through Geschendorf anytime soon, check out this famed local restaurant and let us know if you'd be happy there without the big M, too.
