Secret Birthday Party for Bridge

January 26, 2007 at 9:30 AM | by | Comments (3)

With Australians all attending BBQs and fireworks displays today to celebrate their national day, it seems a sensible time to let you know that that classic Australian icon, the Sydney Harbour Bridge, will officialy celebrate its 75th birthday on March 18 this year. The Museum of Sydney has already opened an exhibtion titled "Bridging Sydney" showcasing the Coathanger's history, but more is to come.

What, exactly? Well, that's still a secret. Early February is marked as the time when information on the birthday celebrations will be released, and we're not sure if that's because it'll be so exciting we just won't be able to handle the news any sooner, or if they haven't quite got it organized yet. Since so many celebrations in Sydney Harbour in the past have been really pretty spectacular, it's probably worth waiting to sing Happy Birthday to the bridge.

I'm doing the bridge climb!

On February 18th, I'll find out the bday plans!

But...

Bridge climbing means little unless you bring me back a real, live baby quokka. Wrapped in a pink blanket. Maybe wearing a little hat or something.

But, again ...

it's another few thousand km from the bridge to the quokkas. Unless part of the big bridge bday celebrations involves getting a team of the little guys together for quokka soccer ... (actually you don't really wanna know what this is ...)
