Where Real Life Grey's Anatomy Nurses Hang in Seattle

January 18, 2007 at 5:44 PM | 1 Comment

Yesterday, cast member T.R. Knight, Dr. O'Malley (who is gay in real life but not on the show), went on "Ellen" to revive a months-old fight and to suggest cast member Isaiah Washington (Dr. Burke) apologize or leave the show. However, what we are really wondering is where do real life medical workers hang out in Seattle? And are their lives anything like the hit medical drama, or is it all just beautiful ruse perpetuated by ABC?

Answers after the break.

Of course the only way for us to figure out where the real life Seattle hospital crew hangs was to blog stalk a nurse, or a doctor.

Luckily for us, Rosebuttons, a 30-year-old critical care nurse, living and working in Seattle keeps a blog. Don't worry, she is now living on the Red Sea in Saudi Arabia working as a private nurse for a foreign dignitary, so she is safe from our musings.

What did we find out? Well, Seattle nurses and doctors go for drinks on Capital Hill, walk their dogs in Magnuson Park, and check out the Space Needle both from Volunteer Park and from its restaurant innards.

These real life Seattle nurses? They hate the Blue Angels, and in the irony to top all ironies, they listen to Snow Patrol. Want more? They even talk like the Grey's Anatomy characters--examples:

Work Life

This morning a nurse friend and I had a conversation about The Ones That Get to You. These are the patients who, for undefinable reasons, just get to you. Somehow you connect with them on a different level than with your other patients. They are the patients who wander into your thoughts on your days off.

Yup, there's Nurse Rose, diligently taking care of her critically ill patient, wondering if anyone else has noticed that gorilla in the room named Death.

Personal Life
I've dated too much this week. Ugh. I don't even have the energy to update you on each of the fellows...I used it all up straightening my hair and smiling a lot.

Then I met a fellow, J, for a drink on Capitol Hill. He turned out to be a red-headed Jewish PhD candidate from Pittsburgh. He was taller than me and didn't have girly hands. He was funny in that self-deprecating academic way that only Jews and academics can be.
Oh, and Grey's producers, you can thank us for these upcoming show ideas by writing us here.

We only have one more suggestion for Grey's cast members, real life Seattle hospital workers, and anyone else who goes to Seattle: take the time mug for pictures as members of the same band at the Experience Music Project. If you're an actor on the show, you probably don't have to worry about expensive museum tickets. But the rest of us can go on those free, Boeing-sponsored nights.

    Nice photo

I love watching Grey's Anatomy, but there is a little too much drama! And what's with them doing EVERY type of bizarre surgical procedure ever? Doesn't anyone specialize?
