Denver International Airport--the pointy-topped United hub outside the city--has won the 2006 Best in Business Award for Best Airport in North America. Sure the airport's public art program is cool, spicing up a drab interior. And we'll give credit to the architects who didn't do the standard "the roof looks sort of like an airplane wing" thing. But we're a little confounded as to how the business travelers who voted to grant the awards chose DIA when it doesn't even have free WiFi.

Nossir, Denver International has farmed out the job of Internet access to AT&T Wi-Fi, which has the whole building wired with their proprietary network. This sucks for people that don't fly out of Denver frequently, and here's why. If you don't have AT&T service at home, it costs $20 a month to sign up for a one-year contract to use AT&T's hotspots. (Yes, they have access points in a few other airports, so if you fly back and forth weekly, be our guest.) There's also the option to buy prepaid "unlimited" day passes at the price of $25 for three connections--better hope that signal doesn't drop!
