Music Heaven in Australia

January 16, 2007 at 10:50 AM | by | Comments (0)

While part of Australia is still humming Elvis tunes after the success of the Parkes Elvis Festival that wound up this week, another part of Down Under are preparing for the world-renowned Tamworth Country Music Festival which kicks off on Friday.

2007 is the 35th anniversary of this heel-kickin' spectacular and as usual they're expecting at least 50,000 visitors (that's 100,000 cowboy boots and around 40,000 hats). But while we were thinking it was all about country music--heck, the name kind of gives that idea, doesn't it?--it seems we've been wrong a long time, and missing out all these years. The fest bills itself as "one of the best parties in the world," for fans of "all kinds of music."

If you want to join this best party then you'd better hurry, because tickets to some events are already sold out. It runs until January 28 and the big moment is the Country Music Awards night (that's just like the Oscars or somethin') on Saturday, January 27. If you go, take your own water and try not to shower too often: the drought in outback Australia's left many locals very concerned about the effect of the fan influx on the water supply, and they almost canceled the whole thing.
