We've talked about ugly giant koalas and the scientists searching for ugly sheep, but now we find there's a contest in Britain to find the ugliest vegetable.
We kind of thought English food was bad enough without adding an incentive to make it ugly. This year a warped and twisted parsnip was the winning (or should that be losing?) veg. The proud grower of Britain's ugliest vegetable for 2006 wins a year's supply of organic vegetables plus--what she really does need--"advice from a National Trust gardener". Presumably, advice on how to grow somewhat prettier greens next time round.
