Southwestern food and New York City don't always have the best of reputations as an ensemble. Restaurants here either focus on the nachos and tequila aspect of the experience, like Tortilla Flats, or it involves Bobby Flay, as in his Mesa Grill restaurant. Either way, you're going to come away irritated.

Chef Tim Love, of the Lonesome Dove Bistro in For Worth, is looking to change that with the don't call it Southwestern cuisine he'll serve at the New York City location of Lonesome Dove. We'll call it "American frontier', because we can, but we're not sure what New Yorkers will call it when the restaurant opens today. Are they hankering for nachos with kangaroo carpaccio? (We guess those were eaten on the Australian wagon trains here in the U.S.)  That remains to be seen, but we think it'll be a success. It's certainly better than $15 Mac and Cheese trend that swept the city this spring.
