Hold Your Breath for Fun and Profit

This weekend was a big one for an important international sport: Breath-hold or Free Diving. Yep, those are the people who think scuba equipment was invented for someone else, and they try to get down deep into the sea using their own lung power. With individual competition events being held in Great Britain, Japan and Greece, there must've been a lot of blue faces in the last few days.

Don't worry if you feel you've missed something, because the US National Championships are starting on the 15th in Hawaii. Disciplines include simple breath-holding, and depth challenges using ropes, fins or nothing at all. Or if you need more time for training and would like to combine a more exotic holiday with your contest entry, try the December team world champs on the Red Sea in Egypt. Just think, all that childhood training in the bath tub might just have a purpose now.
