Eating Your Way to a Free Vacation
Are you a food-lover trying to plan your next vacation? Then why not tie it in with a competition run by the International Federation of Competitive Eating, like Japanese champion eater Takeru Kobayashi. He travels the world wolfing down junk food at other people's expense while he is handsomely rewarded in the process.
This week in Wisconsin, Kobayashi scarfed 58 Bratwursts in ten minutes to smash the previous world record of 34, winning the Bratwurst Eating Championship and a cool $8,000. Last month in New York, he set a record of devouring (almost) 59 hot dogs in twelve minutes.
If you're not a sausage fan, don't despair. The IFOCE site features a long list of upcoming eating contests, so whether it's buffalo wings in Buffalo, pizza in Maryland or hamburgers in Mississippi, there's something for everyone. But unfortunately the IFOCE doesn't exist as an excuse for you to eat as much as you want "in training":
The IFOCE is against at-home training of any kind. The IFOCE urges all interested parties to become involved in sanctioned events -- do not try speed eating home.Sorry. But at least once you get to Mississippi you can eat all the hamburgers you want.
