Beware of Bessie

Danger! Swiss Cows approaching! After a turbulent summer, apparently filled with hiker/cow violence, the Swiss Hiking Federation posted new rules warning hikers to keep their distance from the bovines. New farming techniques, which tend to isolate the cows from human interaction more than ever before, have led to problems.
According to the Federation, here's what to do if you see a cow while hiking the Alpine byways:

Leave the animals in peace and do not touch them. Never caress a calf. Do not scare the animals or look them directly in the eye. Do not wave sticks. Give a precise blow to the muzzle of the cow in the event of absolute need.
We're serious--and don't even think of trying to milk them.
