Site Scramble: Ryanair

The tagline for Ryanair, at the top of the browser window, reads CHEAP FLIGHTS. It's the internet equivalent of a man wearing  a sandwich board that says "Eat at Joe's". Ryanair never promoted their experience as classy, though, just cheap.

And that's the feeling of their site, which has  a color scheme straight out of 1995. The front door is a mess of flashy icons, primary colors, and flights listed for a pence--which won't be the final cost, of course, making the listings themselves rather useless.

The search for fares is slightly more pleasant, if only because the colors are muted. There's not an option to see different days of travel, in case you're wondering if it's cheaper to move travel dates around, and taxes, which make up much of the cost of some fares, aren't displayed until later in the purchase. Ultimately, Ryanair's site does a great impression of what it would be like to buy a ticket to a flying bus; it's ugly, but cheap, and it'll get there eventually.
