Moishe's Steakhouse in Montreal

The Rough Guide to Montreal was our weapon of choice, during our August 2006 jaunt to Montreal. Sometimes these guide books get it right, and sometimes they are off. In this feature, we will tell you what the guide pros said about a place and then give you our take.
Here is what Rough Guides Montreal said about Moishes Steak House:
Very expensive. This steakhouse with dark, paneled walls has been a favorite haunt of Montreal's business community since 1938. Excellent (and huge) charcoal-broiled steaks, but very expensive, with notoriously bad-tempered service.
Here is what we thought of the famous Le Plateau steak house:
Expensive, yes, but you can cut these steaks with the edge of your fork. During our dinner, the staff was excellent and knowledgeable, letting us know the taste difference between their bone-in and bone-out filet mignon.
If you are a baked potato fan you probably want to try the Moishe's famous Montel Carlo Potato.
Reservations? Sure you can make 'em, but they seem to use them as more of a guideline--the staff will seat you when they are good and ready, prepare yourself.
