E-Passports: Snazzy, Useless, and Coming Soon

August 14, 2006 at 1:03 PM | by | Comments (0)

Remember last week, when news came out that e-passports can be hacked? Rather easily, in fact, if you're a determined German guy--and aren't we all, deep down inside?

Nonetheless, despite the recent jitters over liquids and carry-on, the U.S. went ahead with the planned roll-out of e-passports today. The hacker we mentioned hasn't figured out a way to change the data--just copy it--but still, isn't that worthy of pushing back the release of these passports?

Oh, and you'll be paying more for the honor of owning these bad boys; they'll cost $97, not including all those extra expiditing charges you pay when you forget to renew the damn thing until the last minute. We'll be guarding our old-school passport very closely, thank you kindly.
