File this one in the Things We Do For You category: Here's a recap of last night's One Ocean View. OOV is a short reality TV series by the same production team that does the Real World. In it, a bunch of heavily waxed singles spend the summer in Fire Island (mostly weekends, as some are working New Yorkers) and do all the things one would expect from reality TV housemates. The show is kind enough to give one line descriptions for the cast members, and we'll do the same:

Miki and Rhada: Twins that own an organic pizza shop in New York City. Tastefully crunchy.

Mary--A handbag designer that lives in both New York and L.A. She's got L.A. attitude and New York looks. Uh oh.

Lisa--The "shy" one, who is also a "dancer". A shy dancer, we assume.

KJ--Originally from North Jersey, he owns a gym. Guido.

John--Described as the romantic one, he's a broker of some kind. Sensitive Guido.

Usman--Ethnic and horny, much like if Fez from That 70's Show was a wealthy lawyer. Metro Guido.

Zach and Lauren--Formerly a couple, Lauren is keeping Zach on the hook (she was his only girlfriend) while she sluts around with other men. He's a delusional Guido, she's mostly evil.

As for the first episode, there was plenty of circling round and people got to know each other better. The housemates arrive, although it's strange that some of them are forced to drag their suitcases across the beach. Don't they have PA's for that? After the first night settling in, the housemates decamp for a night at Flynn's, which looked pretty empty to us. Strange, it's almost as if other people on Fire Island wanted nothing to do with the show...

Anyway, to summarize the plot developments: Lauren has poor Zach wrapped around her finger, and she is making out with other guys at Flynn's while he sulks. Seriously, the man must be punched in the balls repeatedly until he understands it's time to let go. Meanwhile, Mary likes KJ, but he likes darker, smaller women like Lauren, who kisses him when she leaves on the ferry. She later denies it to Zach, leading to tension: Will she be caught in a web of lies, deceit, and V05 Hot Oil treatment? Only time will tell!

The other housemates are mostly background scenery in the first ep, although it's hard to tell whether Usman's misogynist, vain ways will become more of an issue as the show progresses. Aren't these people old enough to know better? Wait, they're on reality TV. Of course they don't know better.

Bonus reality TV fact: Toward the end of the episode, the cast members meet up at NYC club, where they momentarily cut to KJ's cousin "Eric". Though he's a little worse for wear, it's original Real World cast member/The Grind host Eric Nies. Dear Lord, how far we've come in reality TV land.

Fire Island locations: Flynn's, Maguire's, Island Mermaid.
