Spirit Air Endorses Jeb Bush in $20.08

July 21, 2006 at 8:14 AM | by markj | 0 Comments

It looks like embattled Florida based Spirit Airlines has already made an endorsement for the 2008 US presidential election. We just spotted the following sale on their website:

Jeb Sale- Upgrade to Spirit Plus from $20.08

Travel like a VIP with the Jeb Sale, our 10th named sale of the Spirit Sale Season. Been dreaming about the extra 6 inches of leg room and elbow room? Want those free cocktails and snacks? Point, click, and fly with us in style and upgrade from Coach Class to Spirit Plus Business Class from just $20.08* each way.

To take advantage of this sale, book your upgraded Spirit Plus fare on spiritair.com between 2:00 PM ET on 7/20/06 and 11:59 PM ET on 7/26/06 for travel between July 27, 2006 and November 15, 2006. Other restrictions apply.

Seems like the smart thing for an airline to do is not openly alienate 50% of their potential customer base. Then again, maybe Spirit feels the only way for them to still be flying planes in 2008 is to do something drastic. In any event, it is going to be almost impossible for Spirit to deny that the "Jeb 20.08" sale doesn't have political undertones. However, seeing that the call to action in their ad says "Click Here to get your Xtra 6 Inches" the airline just might have an escape hatch here.

The early $20.08 sale returns after the jump.

One commenter says:

We are going to our travel agent tomorrow morning to book our airfares from Atlantic City to Orlando. We had intended to use Spirit. However, since you are endorsing Jeb Bush, I will not indirectly contribute to his campaign by giving money to you.

Instead, we will most likely be taking AirTran from Philadelphia to Orlando. The greater cost will be worth it to me.
