Striking Back at Frou-Frou Sushi

Good sushi in L.A. is usually confined to the suburbs, where everything is shiny, well-lit and dropping a few hundred on lunch is considered unremarkable. In the city, however, you're limited to gross chain sushi places unless you know where to look.
Noshi Sushi on the northern edge of Koreatown, is a fantastic option, and it's not all that expensive, either. They make it difficult for you nonetheless; It's cash only, and is located in perhaps the most nondescript building in the whole of Los Angeles, but the sushi is worth it. Noshi's chefs specialize in the simpler, more old-timey stuff like yellowtail and mackerel; the most elaborate roll you'll find is the spicy tuna. You won't find "eel with white chocolate" here, unlike at other L.A. establishments.
Noshi is quickly becoming our favorite place to feel smugly authentic about, so get there quick before they succumb to market pressure and add Philadelphia rolls to the menu.
