Art Galleries For Busy Travelers

July 19, 2006 at 8:53 AM | by amandak | 0 Comments

Do you feel a compulsion to visit art galleries when you travel, but you're not sure what to do once you've paid the admission fee and it's just you and the art? Don't worry, London's Tate Gallery has created a helping hand just for you.

At the entrance to their Tate Britain building, a rack of Your Collection brochures gives you all the info you need for a self-guided tour of the highlights. It's not any ordinary selection of highlights, though--it changes, depending on exactly what you're after.

The First Date collection, for example, maps the locations of five key paintings and sculptures to explore if you're bringing that nice Dutch gal from the hostel with you. Advice ranges from checking out a Peter Blake painting to discuss your favorite colors through to standing in front of "Vesuvius in Eruption"--if the date's going well, that is. The I'm Hungover collection has an eight-step tour to soothe the head and the I Like Yellow is for, well, people who like yellow.
