San Francisco Slavs

June 7, 2006 at 2:30 PM | by AVB | 0 Comments

Helpful NYC blog Slavs of New York hit the road recently, and while we weren't all that interested in their Las Vegas jaunt--desert heat doesn't mix well with Central and Eastern European cuisine, to put it diplomatically--we were intrigued by their stop in San Francisco.

It's easy to think that only the east coast and the Midwest are home to a Slavic prescence, but apparently San Fran is home to a big one as well. Back in the day, there was even a big Slovene community, which is rather impressive for such a tiny country.

But, as always, we follow our stomach here at Jaunted, and Slavs' recommendation of Czech restaurant Frankie's Bohemian Cafe, on Divisadero street got us excited. Potato and zucchini pancakes--how can we resist that? Try as California cuisine might to cure us of this flaw, we want our unhealthy, starchy food wherever we go. Bramboraky, ho!
