Site Scramble: Northwest

We must admit that we've been suspicious of Northwest ever since they shortened their handle to NWA. Doesn't anyone listen to rap over there? In the entire company, no one questioned whether the NWA abbreviation was employed elsewhere in the  history of mankind?

Such logic also applies to their web site, which, while powerful, is also incredibly ugly. That is to say, it reaches seizure-inducing levels of ugliness. The front door includes entry points for (deep breath) WorldPerks info, managing reservations, fare searches, flight status and check-in, all in teensy, tiny type.

Underneath the homeliness, the site is useful: Fare searches feature the ability to look for seats before buying tickets. Searches also display the booking class of economy tickets, so you can look for those vaunted y and q up fares. If their site were even the tiniest bit user-friendly, it would be one of the best. Until that time, don't expect any respite from the NWA jokes.

NWA.com waitlists its own schedules (none / 0)

While NWA's website may be graphically challenged, there's another problem with it.  Since, in my opinion at least, one of the primary functions of an airline's website is to give people the ability to look up schedules and make reservations, wouldn't you think that an airline would have all of its flight scheduless available on its website?  I would but apparently Northwest doesn't. NWA doesn't include all of its flights, especially the ones between the continental US and overseas destinations, on NWA.com.

When I asked NWA about this, here's what they told me in an e-mail reply:

"Our website is only available to list a certain amount of available flights. Only our lowest fares are displayed."

However, if you want to look up Northwest's entire flight schedule, you can always use Orbitz, Expedia or Travelocity which seem to have a better picture of NWA's schedules than NWA.com does.

NWA (none / 0)

Looks like airline cutbacks extend even to the internet. Honestly, none of these seats come close to the ease of use of something like kayak, anwyay.
