Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie: Not So Secret African Hideout
By now we all know Super World Travelers Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt hand picked Namibia as the location for the final act before the birth of Jedi Jolie-Pitt. No word yet on whether or not the Jolie-Pitt clan will stick around Namibia post birth and pursue the quiet life of moisture farming. Nonetheless, the Namibian's are screaming from the highest sand dunes about the super couples recent habitation of their spotlight deprived nation.
Jolie first visited Namibia in 2002 when she was filming "Beyond Borders," which is set during Ethiopia's catastrophic, "We Are the World" famine of 1984. Jolie has called reading the script "a life-changing event that prompted her to become a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations."Their presence is a "very good thing" for Namibia, says ambassador Hopelong Ipinge from the Embassy of the Republic of Namibia in Washington, D.C. The attention is as good for tourism as it is for "world cultural understanding," he says, and the couple probably are drawn to the country's history and culture as well as the "peaceful nature" of the people.
Ever since, Namibian towns from Swakopmund to Tsumeb have been experiencing a bit of a renaissance that might just be getting warmed up. It appears to be only a matter of time before the Times and the Times annoint Nabibia the new new thing in travel.
