Bad Fare: Nash's Bridges

Jaunted Bad Fare: Nashville-Atlanta, $318 RT on Delta

Since when did flying between Tenessee and Georgia get so expensive? Eastern TN, like Chatanooga, is practically walking distance to Atlanta, but once you get further afield, it all goes out the window.

This fare is also an excellent example of how the hub and spoke system of travel that many airlines are so intent on defending hurts the average traveler. Delta has a huge hub in Atlanta, and these are the kind of fares that you'll get coming from Nashville, if you're lucky. No wonder Delta and AirTran don't get along--AirTran's coming between Delta and huge revenue stream when they underprice Delta out of the ATL.

Rise up! Throw off your shackles of hub-dom! How, we're not sure. But it'll happen, probably around the same time SRO seats come into service.
