Park Perks

Central Park may be the shining jewel in New York City's parkalogical crown, but it's always been bereft of one very important thing: free wifi. That's all set to change this July: City officials have set midsummer as a deadline for the company who has bid to host the wireless endeavor. By summer's end, the plan is for free wifi in Prospect Park, Brooklyn, Van Cortlandt Park In the Bronx and Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens as well.
While there's already functional wireless networks in small parks in the city, such as Tompkins Square Park and Bryant Park, this is a rather exciting development. Blogging from the Sheep Meadow? Reading any newspaper you want from the boathouse? Sounds hard to resist to us. One reason for the push is that New York City is lagging behind Philadelphia and San Francisco, who are hatching plans for citywide wireless. Still, every little bit counts. Sounds like we may be having class outside this summer.
