Naked German dogs

The will-we-ever-hear-the-end-of-it World Cup is still 28 days away, but in the German village of Schleiden, getting in the spirit has already got out of hand. In this otherwise sleepy town in western Germany near the Belgian border, known only for a dime-a-dozen castle and a couple of churches, fanatic dog thieves have attacked.
Little Simba's owner Theresa Carl describes him, is an eight-year-old Maltese Terrier who went missing recently. He turned up later: patriotically painted with the German tricolors black, red and gold. Poor Simba's fur was so clogged with paint he had to be shaved all over.
So if you're in Bratwurst-land to catch a soccer game next month, watch out for naked dogs and paint-toting fans. Or put Schleiden on the map as the latest trendsetter and take your own appropriately-colored hound for the trip.
