Imagine: There's No Heaven

April 3, 2006 at 10:30 AM | by AVB | 0 Comments

We here at Jaunted believe in protecting tourists, or even savvy locals, from the bait-and-switch. Here's one that we encountered yesterday:

A favorite Southwestern-style eatery in New York is chainlet Miracle Grill. The food is simple, and at times verges on tastiness, but more importantly the margaritas make up for any sin the food commits.

Miracle Grill's East Village location lost their lease this year, and a new restaurant called Imagine Bar and Grill opened in its stead. Imagine kept the menu nearly the same, as they kept the same chef, so things looked good for a smooth transition.

Sadly, Imagine is a pale shadow of Miracle Grill. The margaritas (which tasted like they were mixed with Diet Sprite) can't hold  a candle to MG. The service was lethargic, the food bland and overpriced. Avoid. It's not even worth soldiering through a meal there to sit in the huge garden. We mourn Miracle Grill's passing today more than ever.

But we love eating outside, but unlike the rest of the world, New York's al fresco dining options are limited. Got a recommendation for a great restaurant with a garden, in Manhattan or anywhere else in the world? Send it to tipsATjauntedDOTcom.
