Museums To Impress the Folks Back Home

April 24, 2006 at 9:50 AM | by | ()

The Dahesh Museum. The Swiss Institute-Contemporary Art. The Jaques Marchais Tibetan Art Museum. Theses obscure museums haven't been visited by many New Yorkers, much less someone visiting from out of town. As this New York Times article points out, you might be able to see the art in the five specialty museums discussed--something that's not always a given in some of the blockbuster exhibits at the Metropolitan Museum.

Our pick from their list is the Nicholas Roerich museum on the Upper West Side, named for a spiritually-inclined Russian artist and best known for the many trippy, bright scenes he painted in the Himalayas, where he lived for twenty years. Sure beats another trip with out-of-towners to Times Square.
