The highlight of this week's early viewing action had to be BJ's ghost of Lake imitation, which he performed on the bus to Athens airport. BJ did a perfect Lake, making us wonder, could stand up be in his future. Oh, that's right, we have already seen what is in store for BJ's post show future. Aside from the hippies, who flew Qatar Air, all the teams flew GulfAir from Athens to Muscat in Oman.
Once on the ground in Oman teams drove to Riyam Park and ran up to a huge white incense burner on the hilltop to retrieve their next clue. Next it was a 135 mile drive to the town of Sur, however, in order to get there teams needed to do a bit of off road driving through mud, non-roads, and flood waters. Yeah, flood waters. We have to say, this was one of the coolest scenes we have witnessed on this seasons race. We learned three important lessons from the trek to Sur: The hippies near elimination experience in Greece has them racing scared, Ray and Yolanda are falling apart, and Frankenbarry kick ass with a map.
In Sur, racers needed to locate a ferry dock in Baith Al Battha where a detour awaited. E & J went camel packing, while most other teams decided to search the watch towers. Inexplicably, MoJo switched detours midstream, bagging the tower for the camel. Once the detour was complete the teams headed to 80 miles to Al Hawiyah to dig for spiced lamb steamed in an underground oven--otherwise known as shuwa dinner. The heat was intense during the big dig, and once again the hippies appeared to hit the panic button with a sledgehammer when they were the last to find the hidden lamb dinner.
Luckily for the hippies, Phil announced at the Jabreen Castle pit stop that this was a non-elimination leg. We knew at least one non-elimination leg was coming, but it was still hard to swallow. We prefer someone getting tossed at hours end, yeah we are not compassionate watchers.
What did we learn last night?
Don't mess with Yolanda.
America's Moment of Shame:
Monica, on Oman: "American people think they are rich, these people here are frickin' crazy rich."
Final Thoughts:
Frankenberry just might take this race. We know that is crazy talk, but think about it. This season's race seems extremely map/direction oriented. Big distances between clue locations. Physically, Fran & Barry have no shot, but if this race stays navigational, watch out for these two.
Also: Don't forget to send us tips, especially if you find one of our mapped Amazing Race locations are off a bit. Help us out people!
